8DGE was approached by Huaxi Group, whose business was in container unit fabrication and conversion, to develop a 12,000 sqm hotel masterplan & architecture design concept for the 2017 National Games to be held in Tianjin. The site is located right in the heart of the sports district, adjacent to Tianjin Sports Stadium and easily accessible by subway.
3 modular units of 8m, 10m and 12m length containers were used to develop 3 different room sizes after consultations with hotel operators. The result is a pixelated façade with strong geometry as defined by the stacking of the volumes.
Through this project, the client hopes to demonstrate the versatility and sustainable aspects of off-site modular construction, and showcase that their product had the structural capability and design parameters to develop a high quality design. This method of design and construction minimizes turnaround time, disruption of location and expenses.
